About

I’ve been an editor since 1998 and freelance since 2008. I work mainly for publishers, predominantly on non-fiction and educational titles.

After gaining a degree in architecture, I decided instead to work in publishing. I worked in-house for four different publishers – two children’s publishers (Miles Kelly and Usborne), an educational publisher (Scholastic) and an adult trade packager (Quarto), where I was a Senior Editor, managing highly illustrated titles for publishers in the US and the UK.

I resigned to go freelance – mainly so I never again had to explain to a prospective employer why I wasn’t an architect – and haven’t looked back since. I’ve worked on something like 1000 projects for many different publishers and other clients, at every level from proofreader and copy-editor to development editor and project manager, and I love what I do. As well as running my own editorial business, I also work as a proofreading and copy-editing mentor for the CIEP.
